Miss Rumina Begum is a Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist surgeon currently working at Basildon Hospital, part of the Mid South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.
Having qualified from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry with a first class honours degree in neuroscience and subsequent medical degree, Miss Begum undertook foundation and core surgical training in London before higher trauma and orthopaedic specialist training in the North East and East of England rotations.
Miss Begum completed advanced interface fellowship training in Norwich, and further fellowships in the prestigious Wrightington Upper Limb Unit and North Shore Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand.
Miss Begum passed the British Diploma in Hand Surgery and entered the specialist register in 2021.
Passionate about training and education, Miss Begum became the Unit Training Director for orthopaedic trainees at Basildon Hospital, and has been involved in formal and informal teaching throughout her surgical career.
Miss Begum stays up to date with the latest developments in hand surgery by regularly reviewing for the Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume) and has published a wide variety of peer-reviewed publications. Miss Begum has experience in wet lab research investigating silk as nerve graft conduits, and has also led as trainee Principle Investigator in a nationwide randomised controlled trial. In addition, she has delivered numerous national and international presentations of her research.
In Miss Begum's spare time she enjoys spending time with family and travelling.
